I almost gave up on the third book, The Pickleball Farmers. I just had my first child by the time I wanted to publish and my brain was so overwhelmed with all of the new things to learn when you have your first baby that I just couldn’t sit down and finish it.
I’m proud to say I did. I finished it after I had my second child, actually, which made the task that much more difficult. As many people have said before me, you’d be surprised how your children will inspire you to do things you never thought imaginable. Sometimes it’s as simple as saying “No! Don’t put the cat’s tail in your mouth!” or something as complex as finishing your three-book series.
I don’t know if I will accomplish my dream of continuing to write books about small farms around the country and even the world at this point, but I’m content with the fact that I have finished three books about the three most important farms to me. All of these books are based on true stories of three wonderful, magical places that shaped me into the woman and mother I am today.
It’s a beautiful thing to step on a farm in Spring and watch everything burst to life. Everything is wonderful, from the smell in the air to the kindness of the insects as they emerge from their winter homes. Right now I feel like I’m in my own Spring. I have a brand-new life with two incredible kids and I’m watching my very own words create memories all over the world. I invite you to enjoy The Pickleball Farmers or the other two books, The Farm on the Fuzzy Edge of the Map and The Apple Farm Around the Bend with your friends, family, or pet.
Most of all, I hope you enjoy the day.
